"In
the vast plain of the north I have sometimes seen, in the morning sun, ...where no missionary has been before."
Robert Moffat Who Are These Travelers?
BIKERussia (Bicycling Into Karelia for Evangelism) the two-wheeled ministry that was started in 1996 to take the Word of God into rural northwestern Russia on mountain bikes, has changed it's emphasis, and with it, the name of the ministry. St. Brendan the Navigator was a 4th Century Celtic monk who traveled far and wide as what we would call today an evangelist and church planter. It is known that he sailed at least as far to the west as Iceland, and he is believed to have even made it to the shores of Canada, over four hundred years before the Vikings and a millennia before Christopher Columbus set foot on the shore of the New World. That same spirit of exploration and evangelism that guided St. Brendan six centuries ago, is alive today in St. Brendan's Travelers. Using the most common form of mechanized transportation in the world today, the bicycle, our calling and mission is to take the Word to the world on two wheels. In April of 2008, we will started our first-ever missions training program. Future plans include short-term missions trips, retreats, as well as family and church group events. Eventually, we hope to lead an outreach along the Lewis and Clark Trail to the west, a pilgrimage to sacred sites in Ireland or, God willing, back to northwestern Russia to continue the work we started in 1997. We are also seeking to become friends or partners with churches and mission groups with similar objectives. Biking, Bible Study, Worship, Discipleship and Outreach: Join Us! Missions Leadership Training moves to Phase 2 in September! For More Information: Click here to e-mail us. (Or click here to go to our Missions Training page.)
